Lousy Love Song

One day long ago we met the first time
I never thought he would be mine
He stumbled through the door like a broken ship
High flying on a mescaline-trip
And he picked me to be his ground staff
I supposed it was a good job to start

Half of the day he was stoned out of his box
The rest of the time he was drunk
So baby this is no lousy love song,
Cause this is no love song at all
There is just little difference between love and hate
They walk on like kids hand in hand
So baby this is no lousy love song,
Well, this is no love song at all

I was stupid enough to fall in love
And for some reason he made me laugh
When he tried to rewind his state of mind
Leaving all his education behind
and now after all these long years
It’s not even worth a few tears

No Flowers

Let him waste away slowly behind these grey walls
Catch on the idea that it’s really not worth
To call him or search for him somewhere on earth
And to know where he’s living doesn’t matter at all

He capped the net with a pair of old scissors
Driven by the devil he cut off the rope
Of friendship and trust of future and hope
He just disappeared calling us foolish figures

Dear old friend shall we meet at the churchyard?
There’s no nameplate, no doorbell, no identity card
Will this be the place you feel free?
Where the air is so mild and the gravestone is waiting
You’re finally happy and you’re feeling at ease
Just grumbling at me
“No flowers, please”

His guitar is broken his drawing pens are chewed
And when a nice thought slowly reaches his head
He spurns it with his feet ‘till its really dead
So in love with himself he don’t even feel crud

Argallo

Welcome to the green hell of Argallo
Where nature’s a sensation of its own
It feels like paradise and smells like home grown
Though this is not the fair side to be shown
Welcome to the place where people argue
What’s right or wrong they’ll never find a way
To see the otherness of minds and ask: how are you
Though that’s the cause they all came there to stay

Lots of people came together and got lost in the valley
To focus on themselves and refuse to see reality
And I went there to drop out and I planed to tune in
Ended up fighting missions had no chance to begin
Freedom appeared lonely without like-minded people
When heartbeats sound different and nothing feels equal

I learned to light a fire very carefully at night
And in springtime the garden grew plants in bright light
I managed to bandage the wounds of a day’s work
And was glad not to share the bored life of a clerk
I took all my power and I felt almost insane
Built a house and knew every odd stone by its name

Done all work by hand and sat in the candlelight
‘Cause there was no electricity to get far and wide
No telephone around you simply had to write a letter
Having no television didn’t make it any better
Instead I had earthquakes, landslides and forest fire
There’s no natural way to run on adrenalin much higher

Welcome to the green hell of Argallo...

Queue up

As a kid at school you wore a crown
And you loved to see the world upside down
Until the teacher shook his head
Stop telling fairy tales, he said
So you found out it wouldn’t be easy to make a living on your own

You looked around to find a job
But all you got was a chance to swap
Your lifetime, milk and honey,
For a pocketful of money
And you thought this would be better than to hopelessly flop

Queue up! Queue up! Queue up!
Be patient and kind with your frustration in mind
Queue up! Queue up! Queue up!
It’ll take some time, ‘til you reach ---- the top of the line.

For years and years you’ve worked so hard
Crawled out of your shabby backyard
Friendly attracted by the future
Where clouds looked much smoother
You decided that’s the time to play out your last card

After your bank account had been fed
You’re surprised by suddenly dropping dead
Your family cried like a fountain
While their fingers were  counting
The properties you’ve left and the inheritance ahead

Years in a row are the most curious show
That you’ve ever seen on stage
You try to get away but they force you to stay
And in the end all they call it is age

Getting Older

As the years pass by and my hair turns grey
I still find my glasses with just a little delay
My back is aching and my fingers are cold
And the doctor says Lady you might just be getting old

In a tram a young man friendly offered his seat
I said thank you so much boy but there's really no need
‘Cause it looks like you’re the one who could use a good rest
I rather stand on my feet; these late years are the best

But getting older feels like a crime unless you’re bottle of wine
Getting older is out of style that’s the problem of our time

My grandchildren are so sweet and behave very well
When I sit down ‘cause I’ve got lots of stories to tell
About life and love about their future or my past
And they look at me smiling coming up to caress

Luna

Running so free and living so wild
No collar no leash, no moods to hide
‘Cause your mind was gentle and kind

Luna you left far too soon
But you are here with me
When I look up to the moon

Catching the Frisbee and chasing a ball
Your long brown hair shines in the sun
I still see you running so fast

Luna you left far too soon
But you are here with me
When I look up to the moon

We didn’t need words and we never got loud
You followed my heels, looking so proud
I miss you deep in my heart

Luna you left far too soon
But you are here right beside me
When I look up to the moon

So What?

We sat there in the playground with a shovel and a bucket
Serving sand cakes and collecting stones in our pocket
But the excitement disappeared all by itself - as we grew older
And there is nothing to do about it but wait

We started to dress up like a princess or a cowboy
Building castles out of blankets shooting holes in the blue sky
Till we decided that’s a pretty stupid way - to appear
And there is nothing to do about it but wait

So what? Stop crying - So what? Start flying
When the sun goes down trustily turn around
And watch the other side till the sunrise supplies
Another day, another way to carry on

We went out every night and didn’t handle much more
Than dancing and drinking singing songs against the war
Up to that night we felt tired and desired - our home
And there is nothing to do about it but wait

So what...

Because some periods of our way
Are not intended to stay
They are just a twinkle in the eye
A moment of bliss to go by

We raised our children and we made our living
Coming close together once a year on thanksgiving
To be happy about the celebration – of peace
And there is nothing to do about it but wait

So what...

We continued running and we knew what was coming
When the circle is closed there’s only one door to go in
It’s a beginning and ending we just - change places in life
And there is nothing to do about it but wait

So what? Stop crying - So what? Start flying
When the sun goes down trustily turn around
And watch the other side till the moon supplies
Another way, but not a day to carry on

Smart Phone

I might appear old fashioned and I probably am
When I went out for dinner with a good old friend
We sat down and while we ordered our meal
Her telephone rang and flashed quite genteel

She gave me that “Sorry, it’s important” look
And I nodded my head played around with my fork
While she was busy to explain him her point of view
I went outside to smoke a cigarette or two

Brave little phone you’re ever so smart
We love you for listening and talking to our heart
Without a break you’re working so hard
To connect all the people so smart – smart – smart
Never mind the one who’s too close to be called

Came back to the table where she still gabbled on
For sure, her boyfriend was stuck to the phone
There was no doubt it could only be very urgent
So I won’t interrupt this private act of convergence

Brave little phone...

Sitting right in front of you!

Roads

A road in Spain I’ll always remember
The strong smell of petrol from the dry grass of September
In the distance the landscape trembled in the glimmering heat
And the wind carried clouds of dust to the windshield

Lei lala lei…..

A road in Wales I’ll never forget
Walls of hedges by the roadside with leaves bright and wet
For miles sheep were grazing on endless meadows
On the wild cliffs by the sea sheltered by a rainbow

These are the roads of my life and I don’t know where they lead
In the end I realized I grew up in a dead end street
And this might be the reason I was seeking each day
Just for roads that have to be endless both ways
These are the roads of my life
And I don’t know where they lead
Don’t know where they lead

A road in Austria I still have on my mind
It runs on like a black snake with no place to hide
‘Cause the rest of the country was shrouded by snow
The road wound up to the mountains and left the trees below

Broken clock

Spring forward – fall back

One night in springtime they send you to sleep
Then rob you an hour like a burglar or a thief
Meanwhile they put on your nightstand beside
Wrapped in nice paper an hour of light
To use in the night

Spring forward – fall back

That’s the way they highjack your brain and make you feel
Just like a broken clock and as if time wasn’t real

Later on when the trees getting coloured and then
Spread out their leaves in the cold morning sun, but
Again in the night they’ll sure find their way
To bring back an hour of darkness to stay
And to use in the day

Spring forward – fall back
Spring forward – fall back

That’s the way they highjack your brain and make you feel
Just like a broken clock and as if time wasn’t real

Never Been Friends

I thought I knew you
And I didn’t care if you were here or there
Living close to me or roaming somewhere
I believed we knew each other quite well
No matter if life felt like heaven or hell

But you taught me better, that’s the point where it ends
You said: Listen love, we’ve never been friends

I sat stunned in silence
No word has been said I just felt awful mad
And threw an ashtray right towards your head
You coward so neat and to my surprise
There was a gleam of humour in your eyes

But you taught me better…

Okay, my old friend
If you feel that way there is no reason to stay
Perhaps another day we might have something to say
Talking and laughing like we did years ago
I never thought it would end up by slamming the door

But you taught me better, that’s the point where it ends
You insisted that we’ve never been friends
You said: Listen love, we’ve never been friends

Nothing

When there is nothing to see
Not even a single bee
Tumbles around a tree
Searching for the blue sea
You better have a cup of tea
And I hope you’ll agree –
Count to three

When there is nothing to feel
Your heartache won’t heal
You lost your great ideal
And your thoughts seem surreal
When emotions ‘re out of steel
Just look for a better deal –
Turn the wheel

Once you start to think about nothing,
You already think about something
Thoughts about something, it easily happens,
In the end they turn out to mean nothing

When there is nothing to hear
Silly sounds disappear
Although your ears are clear
Be sure it must be here
Where noise dammed by a weir
To switch in the next gear –
Have no fear

When there is nothing to say
No words for today
Ask yourself why you stay
On your knees to pray
You’re voiceless by the way
Don’t worry that’s okay –
Time to play

Once you start to think about nothing,
You already think about something
Thoughts about something, it easily happens,
In the end they turn out to mean nothing

If any man can show just cause, why all these words may not lawfully be joined together, let him now speak, or else hereafter for ever hold his peace!
